Some of the members of the West Virginia Native Plant Society Facebook Group wanted a one-stop place to go to find resources such as websites, books, apps, and also a place to list common plant species (or uncommon) in West Virginia that they have observed, so they can quickly discover if it invasive, native, not native but naturalized, useful, etc. As we add more plants, this could be a place where they can compare their specimens, add new locations for specimens etc.
This site is attached to wvmspa.org, which is the West Virginia Maple Syrup Producers Association website. As webmaster, I made the executive decision to add a free subdomain for this plant database. If we fill up the space with too many photos, we may have to move to our own site. But as farmers who are concerned about the health of their forests, and some of whom are interested in agroforestry, it did not seem like a big stretch that the two societies be connected.
